Skin Cancer and Mohs Surgery
Skin cancer is the growth of abnormal cells in a layer of the skin. There are many treatments for skin cancer depending on the severity and type of cancer.
  • Curettage – Cancerous tissue is scraped away with a sharp instrument, followed by destruction of the cancerous tissue with an heated needle.
  • Surgical Excision – An incision is made around the lesion or growth, fully excising it. The skin is then closed with stitches.
  • Mohs Micrographic Surgery – Cancerous area is excised and  examined immediately under the microscope. This allows for the full examination of cancerous tissue so all of margins of skin are free of tumor.  Mohs surgery is a one-day procedure performed in the office.  Mohs surgery is recognized as the skin cancer treatment with the highest cure rate reported.  See Mohs section on the right side of this page for additional information.
